Richard Stallman, rich guy

The irascible and opaque force behind emacs and the GNU project, arguing for decades that all commercial software is evil, is a co-recipient of the 2001 Takeda Award, along with Linus Torvalds and Ken Sakamura. The three will split 100,000,000 Yen, or about $830,000, in a December 4 ceremony. Stallman says he wants to invest the money and live off it so he can do free software for the rest of his life. So that's how you make a living at free software. Found via Scripting News, where Dave Winer thinks the award is misplaced (no, he doesn't think he should get it).
