"Recent good stuff"

The right sidebar on the site now has a list of recent stories that I particularly like. It's done in a different way internally so, hopefully, it will be easier for me to edit and keep up-to-date (the "links" are in the same chunk). It's only stories right now, but it could include regular news items if I want.

BTW, if the "Members" section shows "Join Now" instead of "Sign out", this is my pitch to ask you to join the site. It's free, no ads, and it has a couple of benefits:

  1. You can get some new messages and new stories in E-mail instead of checking the site if you want
  2. You can post responses to anything you like or that you think is particularly bone-headed, and get responses in E-mail
  3. It swells my head when there are lots of members (hey, I didn't say they were all benefits to you)

On the other hand, posting anything does subject your E-mail address to Web harvesters, possibly increasing spam, so I understand if you don't want to do that. You have to use a real E-mail address if you want anything E-mailed to you, naturally. If you own your server, all legit E-mail this site sends will come from a "macjournals.com" address, if you want to filter it. So if spam doesn't scare you, sign up and let me know you're there.

Trummel a harasser?

According to this AP report, 70-year-old Paul Trummel is not so much a free speech advocate as a delusional harasser.

Trummel was jailed indefinitely on Feb. 27 for violating an anti-harassment order by King County Superior Court Judge James A. Doerty. Doerty ruled in April 2001 that Trummel had been abusive and stalked residents and administrators at Council House, a low-income retirement home in Seattle.

Doerty ordered Trummel to remove from his Web site the home phone numbers, addresses and other personal data on employees at Council House, and imposed fines of $100 a day for failing to comply.

Trummel also was ordered to remove a picture making administrator Stephen Mitchell resemble Osama bin Laden.

Council House managers and some residents say Trummel is delusional, obsessive and inflammatory. He was evicted last year, partly because of his Web site and newsletter Disconnections, a takeoff on the center's official publication, Connections.

Last week Doerty limited Trummel's phone privileges, saying he was still harassing residents and staff members, and he was placed in solitary confinement. His incarceration is set for court review June 17.

Story: Crown Oklahoma!

A visit to the Oklahoma State Capitol to see history in progress, complete with pictures, prompts thoughts about Oklahoma insecurity and tribal politics. Long but I think good, if I do say so myself.
