OKLAHOMA IN THE ROSE BOWL!

Unbelievable -- the Sooners in Pasadena. The Orange Bowl got its traditional "screw you" in by taking the Big 10 vs. Pac 10 match up that the rules deny the Rose Bowl (Iowa vs. USC). OU plays Washington State in the Rose Bowl (Big XII vs. Pac 10 champions), and Georgia plays Florida State in the Orange Bowl (ACC vs. SEC champions).

Holy cow.

BCS last minute drama?

One more before bed. Hey, what can I say, I like trying to figure out bizarre systems. Why do you think I got involved with Macintosh printing and typography?

Jerry Palm at CollegeBCS.com reports that some of the early computer rankings for today - the last and only material BCS rankings - are moving Iowa ahead of USC. If Iowa finishes fourth in the BCS, the Rose Bowl is happy but USC is sad. That would guarantee Iowa the BCS berth it deserves, but would leave USC in fifth place. Then the Orange Bowl gets an at-large berth without pressure to pick Iowa. Perhaps then the Orange Bowl picks Notre Dame after all, or Kansas State who has lobbied them so hard, to play Florida State. The Rose Bowl gets Iowa as it wants and OU goes to the Sugar Bowl. Or the Orange Bowl picks Iowa anyway, just to be the screw-you-chumps crew of insolents we know they can be.

We'll know the rankings before 2:30 but not the bowl selections. I'll try not to post again until I wake up.

OU 29, Colorado 7

The Sooners' second win over the Buffaloes this season (was it turnovers and the weather this time, Mr. Barnett?) gives OU the Big XII Championship. We find out this afternoon whether OU goes to the Sugar, Rose, or Orange Bowl. The buzz everywhere is what we said here a week ago: that OU may be bound for Pasadena. Wouldn't that be a trip?
