ACLU defends Christian school kids - again

If any of you thought the case I wrote about two years ago was an aberration, here's another one. The ACLU went to court to defend a Christian student's right to express her beliefs at school - in this case, through her yearbook quote - when the school tried to suppress it. The settlement includes reinserting the Bible verse in all copies of the yearbook on file at the high school, plus training on free speech and religious freedom for the staff. The student involved did not want any money.

Remember how simple this is: students in schools have free speech rights and can express themselves however they please as long as it's not disruptive. The adults in charge can't push their beliefs onto the students, nor can the school deliberately pick students to make religious statements at times when other students are required to attend, like at graduation ceremonies or sporting events (where athletes and spirit squads must attend). Other than that, if a student wants to wear a non-disruptive BIble T-shirt, or make a Bible verse (or a Koran verse!) a yearbook quote, the school has no right to say otherwise.
