...at the Democratic National Convention, as I'm writing this, and I notice two things:

1. C-SPAN's identity plate at the bottom of the screen reads:

   SEN. JON CORZINE
   R-New Jersey, Democratic Senatorial
   Campaign Committee Chairman

   I'm sure the DSCC would be shocked to learn that their chairman is a Republican. C-SPAN has removed and restored this graphic three times as of when I paused it to get the text right.

2. Sen. Corzine is talking about electing a diverse Democratic Senate, including "Barrack Obama in Illinois, Ken Salazar in Colorado, Brad Carson in Oklahoma - an African American, a Mexican American, and a Native American - we'll have a Senate that proves what we all know: diversity is our party's hallmark and America's greatest strength."

   Except, you know, the Oklahoma primary is today, and Carson isn't technically the Democratic candidate yet. You'd think Corzine would actually care about that.

Oh well.

Update: It's just a few minutes later, and the conventions is running a video memorial to prominent Democrats who have passed away since the 2000 convention in Los Angeles, including Russell Long, Alan Cranston, Mike Mansfield, Daniel Patrick Moynihan, Gov. O'Bannon of Indiana, Sen. Paul Simon, and other governors, senators, congressmen, mayors, and more - including, and especially, Paul Wellstone.

So why was the music from Forrest Gump?

Sigh.

"Everything I see at the Democratic National Convention, no matter how much it obviously contradicts everything snarky I've said about Democrats for the past four years, only serves to prove that I was right."

The man's now officially useless. Microsoft could sell Slate to the National Enquirer and it wouldn't get any worse than this.
