Stunning hypocrisy
Sy Hersh is the famous journalist who writes for The New Yorker, and who broke the Abu Ghraib prison scandal last year. In the next issue, Hersh reports that the Bush administration has authorized covert operations in Iran to identify military targets, and that these operations have been going on for at least six months in preparation for the next phase of Bush's war: the invasion of Iran.
(Please recall that, just this week, Bush ruled out expanding the military.)
This will get plenty of ink starting today, I'm sure, but I just wanted to note what White House communications director Dan Bartlett said when asked about Hersh's new article:
Of The New Yorker report, he said: "I think it's riddled with inaccuracies, and I don't believe that some of the conclusions he's drawing are based on fact."
The Bush Administration now wants us to ignore things that are riddled with inaccuracies, and to reject conclusions that aren't based on fact? Goodbye war in Iraq, war in Iran, Medicare prescription drug benefit, Social Security reform, tax cuts, the other tax cuts, the other other tax cuts, energy policy, faith-based initiatives...
