Right wing theology

AMERICAblog, quoting NPR on "Jeff Gannon":

"As for those Web sites, Gannon said he created them for clients of a software company he used to work for. And Gannon says his Christian faith has enabled him to receive forgiveness for the sins of his past."

Emo Phillips:

When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle. Then I realized that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me.

Tom Tomorrow is right - it's hard for the satirists to stay ahead of this crowd...

Fun with headlines

Garth Brooks Coming Out Of Retirement For Benefit; Oklahoma-Born Star To Play One-Time Only Show In Fort Worth (ChannelOklahoma)

FORT WORTH, Texas -- He's not coming out of retirement, but country music star and Oklahoma native Garth Brooks will perform Sunday at Bass Performance Hall during a benefit to help a local hospital buy a brain-mapping machine.

Emphasis added, for the benefit of Channel 5's headline writers who can't seem to read ledes...

Story: Framing "Jeff Gannon"

How the conservative wingnuts are frothing about their plant being exposed is, to me, just as interesting as how it happened in the first place. It showcases the right's masterful deflection skills as, once again, they try to change the story about conservative wrong-doing into one about the people who discovered it. Got a little too long for the home page, so it gets its own.

(The URL above may make the RSS feed not validate for a while, because it's a relative URL, not an absolute one. It's not even the right relative URL, but the one I have to use to make the link work. This is a Manila weakness that's been around for years - there's no way to have a blog post's URL reference another page on the site without using absolute URLs that would break if the site's domain name changes. I've reported this about three times to UserLand Software, and have yet to even hear, "Thanks, we'll put that in our bug database." I'm not holding my breath.)
