Now Kos falls for it as well
Just great. See previous discussion here. You have to wonder how Markos would feel if RedState.org decided to raise money by selling "Daily Hos" T-shirts.
Even that would actually be parody, unlike "A Prairie Ho Companion," a shirt that says nothing about A Prairie Home Companion as Jerry pointed out.
I'm a big, big fan of the First Amendment, but I absolutely do not understand this mentality that freedom of speech means there's no responsibility for your speech.
"Why do kids leave small towns?"
The next time you hear some small town official complain about all the young people leaving and never come back, remember stories like this one.
MINCO - Skateboarders on city property could face a $245 fine under a new ordinance passed by the Minco City Council.
The law prohibits skateboarding on sidewalks in front of private businesses, on the streets and on city-owned property, Mayor Doug Denard said.
"This has been a problem for some time," Denard said. "There are four or five who have been destructive in the past and didn't want to abide by the warnings by the police when told to move on.
"They will have to go to the park now."
The law goes into effect Oct. 1.
The population of Minco in 2000 was 1672, and with linear growth estimates, is probably about 1720 today. The entire school system has less than 550 students. Chances are good that more than "four or five" of them skateboard, but the lovely city council has decided to ban them all rather than deal with the ones who are actually causing destruction, which, in theory, should already be illegal whether skateboards are involved or not.
Kids say they leave small towns because bigger cities give them the freedom to be themselves. If you wonder what that means, think of Minco.
Attention Pundits
There are eight Associate Justices of the Supreme Court.
There is one Chief Justice of the United States, a position that's currently empty due to the death of William Rehnquist.
There is no such position as "Chief Justice of the Supreme Court," nor has there been. Such would be roughly equivalent to talking about the "President of the White House."
Thank you.
Robert Wise: 1914-2005
LOS ANGELES - Robert Wise, who won four Oscars as producer and director of the classic 1960s musicals "West Side Story" and "The Sound of Music," has died. He was 91.
Wise died Wednesday of heart failure after falling ill and being rushed to the University of California, Los Angeles, Medical Center, family friend and longtime entertainment agent Lawrence Mirisch told The Associated Press.
Mirisch said Wise had appeared in good health when he celebrated his 91st birthday Saturday.
I've been ill and not working the past few days, and in that time I watched both West Side Story and The Day The Earth Stood Still, both with bonus features including interviews with Wise. I have at least one more film he directed, too: Star Trek: The Motion Picture. He finally got to go back in 2000 and do a "director's cut" of it.
I've never seen The Sound of Music. I know, I suck.
