KFOR should lose its license

Honest to God, this was the 5-second promo for KFOR's "NewsChannel 4 at 6" broadcast for tomorrow night, aired at just before 11:13 PM, with Linda Cavanaugh's voice over a picture of a toddler playing with blocks while a television played, ignored, in the background:

How television sets can kill your kids - tomorrow at 6.

For at least 4 days, they've been running promos that say "Don't let the tooth fairy take your child's teeth - we'll tell you why, Thursday at 10," and that was bad enough, but how television sets can kill your kids?

How fucking irresponsible is this station going to get before someone pulls their broadcast license? Let's be clear about this:

  • If there is some imminent danger to children, in Oklahoma or elsewhere, from television sets, then it's urgent news and needs to be broadcast now.

  • If there is no imminent danger to children, then trying to scare people into watching your newscast is at best dishonest and at worst the desperate acts of a losing, frightened television station that thinks it has absolutely no way to get you to view its completely incompetent newscast other than making you fear for your childrens' lives.

KFOR, I remind you, is owned by The New York Times. The newspaper is trying to sell the station, and there's really not much question why, is there?

Where's that FCC complaint form again?
