Buying for Equality 2008

I'm not always fond of the Human Rights Campaign's support for lukewarm candidates, or failure to denounce anti-gay stances in otherwise favorable candidates, but this is a good thing: a 42-page guide listing how well companies treat their LGBT employees, as a way of helping you decide if you want to buy the $3 box of cereal at Target (score: 100) or Wal-Mart (score: 40), or if you want to make your $200/month car insurance payment to AIG (score: 30) or State Farm (score: 80).

And for those of you who think "gay rights" are already an established fact:

As of January 1, 2008, it is legal in 30 states to fire someone for being gay, lesbian or bisexual. It is legal in 38 states to fire an employee for being transgender.

Where possible, spend your money with the good guys.
