Answers to simple questions

Chris in Paris, at AmericaBlog (not a regular read anymore after their Hillary-hatred about a year ago, but someplace I occasionally check):

A failed AIG—as much as we all detest this company—is going to bad all around but playing this game is too much. Do the greedy people at AIG really want to be responsible for damaging the US and global economy any more than they’ve done so far?

They don’t care. These people have already wrecked the global economy by taking ridiculous risks to make themselves richer. You think they’re going to care now if they make it worse? They were only in it for their personal gain before, and you think shame is going to change that now?

These people probably believe that if AIG and Goldman Sachs and other big firms fail, Washington and other governments will be desperate to hire “knowledgeable” people to sift through the rubble, and they think those people will be them. They honestly believe the world economy cannot function without them, so someone will pay them millions of dollars no matter what happens. They don’t care if it’s AIG or some economic recovery crew.

Having lost everything, including things that weren’t theirs to lose, they still think they can’t lose. Of course they’ll let more firms fail if they don’t get their bonuses. If they had any sense of responsibility, they wouldn’t have the jobs that they used to destroy the economy.
