The 2004 Peabody Awards are out
And the winners include...
The Daily Show with Jon Stewart: Indecision 2004
Comedy Central
Through the momentous weeks of the 2004 Presidential Campaigns, Jon Stewart and cohorts provided the kind of cathartic satire that deflates pomposity on an equal opportunity basis. Somehow this sharp commentary made the real issues more important than ever.
Also honored: CBS News's Abu Ghraib prison story, by the same people later fired for the story with "fake" documents about George W. Bush's National Guard records. These documents were touted as "fake" by the same people who touted the recent "Terry Schaivo is a great political issue for Republicans" memo as "fake," even though that kind of fell apart on them.
You can get your own copy of the Peabody-winning "Indecision 2004" on DVD on June 28, we learn today, in a separate but impeccably-timed announcement. Plus, The Daily Show is new tonight, so tune in and watch them make fun of the Peabodys for giving them another one.
Update: And then The Daily Show did their entire new show on Thursday without mentioning their new Peabody even once. Grrr.
