They thought he shoplifted something, so they tackled him and held him down, shirtless, against the hot pavement…for ten minutes, he begged for his life and the 30-strong crowd did too...and when his heart finally stopped, the Wal-Mart employees didn't even try to give him CPR. Somehow, this changes the discussion.

If this happens in front of you, and the person being detained is obviously in distress, here's what you say to the rent-a-goon:

Take your fucking foot off his neck before I put mine up your ass.

Then follow through.

A standing eight-count is appropriate. Put the goon on the ground, place him under citizen's arrest for assault and kidnapping, and keep your foot on his neck until the police arrives. He already expressly stated that such form of custody is acceptable to him.

(I've known many good men and women who worked as security guards, often in addition to police duties. They are not rent-a-goons. You know who the rent-a-goons are, in the same way you can tell whether a public figure is a leader or a slimeball. Anyone who does what the guards in this story did is a rent-a-goon. You know this.)
