Local politics or sexism?

I never can tell anymore. From the Associated Press:

Retired Maj. Gen. Kathryn Frost dies

By SUZANNE GAMBOA, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON - Retired Maj. Gen. Kathryn George Frost, who was the highest ranking woman in the Army when she retired last year after a 31-year career, died Friday of breast cancer. She was 57.

Frost, wife of former , D-Texas, had been battling cancer for four years.

"Kathy was a woman of incredible strength," the former congressman said in a statement. "I will miss her deeply."

The same event as covered by the Dallas Morning News:

Kathryn Frost, wife of former congressman, dies

By RICHARD WHITTLE / The Dallas Morning News

WASHINGTON – Retired Army Maj. Gen. Kathryn George Frost, the wife of former U.S. Rep. Martin Frost, D-Dallas, died Friday after a four-year battle with breast cancer.

Gen. Frost, who commanded the Army and Air Force Exchange Service in Dallas during her final service assignment, was 57. The AAFES is an $8 billion operation that provides retail goods to U.S. troops worldwide.

"She was a highly accomplished Army officer," Mr. Frost said. "She was the senior woman in the Army on active duty when she retired in April of 2005."

Both articles list Gen. Frost's accomplishments, but the Dallas Morning News headline ignores them altogether in favor of mentioning that she was the wife of a former Congressman. That doesn't seem right.
