Welch is full of it
Ah, it saddens me to see a friend jump off the deep end, but here's the shorter bynkii:
Waah! Copyright holders aren't making the versions I want, so I should be able to get them for free!
Sorry, John, you know I like ya and all that, but you do not have a right to free sheet music to a song, in any form, just because you can't buy it and can't figure out how to play it by ear.
Yes, it sucks that so many good songs are difficult or impossible to buy in sheet music form - no argument there. But if I write a song, I own it. If I choose not to sell sheet music of it and leave money on the table, that's my business and my stupidity. You don't get to correct it for me.
This is reminiscent of the whole Google Library thing I wound up wading through here and here. I still don't understand this entire argument that copyright laws should not apply to people who want something but can't find it. Yes, that situation sucks, and I don't blame people who have their own copies of music, movies, or even software that's no longer available or not in the format they want.
If you try to make money off of those things, like Google Library or tab sites, you're going to have to expect industry groups to say "hey, wait a minute." This is not a difficult concept.
Anyway, back to work. We'll get back on track tonight or tomorrow I order all my meals from Pizza Hut, sodium capital of the universe.
Update: Order the salt lick, because I'm passing out, but I'll get right back to it tomorrow.
