Illinois governor George Ryan today did the right thing despite what is likely a personal threat of prosecution and certainly a hugely damaging reputation in his state for years to come, all because he properly and conscientiously exercised his constitutional authority to fix the mistakes of prosecutors and police. So, of course, now people who hate the constitution are trying to make him pay for it.
