That speech Bush gave in Senegal a few days ago about the horrors of slavery? Seems he didn't need to look very far. Reuters reports that while Bush was speaking, the residents of the local island of Goree were involuntarily rounded up at 6AM and held at a local football field until after Bush had left, to prevent them from protesting or otherwise exercising, you know, American-style freedoms that are the opposite of slavery.

Many residents compared Bush's hour-long visit unfavorably to the island tour by former President Bill Clinton in 1998.

"When Clinton came, he shook hands, people danced," said former Mayor Urbain Alexandre Diagne.

By the way, this was the same speech in which born-again George said that God wanted slavery for two hundred years in North America to bring the USA to a clearer conscience:

By a plan known only to Providence, the stolen sons and daughters of Africa helped to awaken the conscience of America. The very people traded into slavery helped to set America free.

"A plan known only to Providence" means "God's mysterious will," so George is actually saying that God wanted the darkies enslaved for a couple of centuries to build a land that George would one day be called to rule. This is actually how the man thinks. No wonder it's not troubling to imprison hundreds of them for a few hours so he can look more "eloquent" on TV, unbothered by American-style freedoms distracting from his message.
