Gilmore ejected from plane for political speech
EFF co-founder John Gilmore was removed from a British Airways plane on July 18 because he was wearing a button that said "Suspected Terrorist." He was told his expression of political speech "endangered the aircraft," and when he would not remove it, British Airways returned the plane to the gate, delaying 300 people on a full flight to London.
When back in the terminal, BA said they had no choice but to honor the captain's decision not to accept Gilmore and his companion as passengers, but preemptively declared that no other captain would accept them either. The BA people agreed that several other forms of political speech on buttons would be acceptable, though, including "Hooray for Tony Blair!" They also declined to explain how speech on a button "endangered" a plane but newspapers or magazines did not.
The entire thing shows how the terrorists have already won, and why Gilmore's badge was absolutely correct. So, by the way, don't fly British Airways.
