Mel Gibson's Theology
You may have heard some of the flap about Mel Gibson's new movie The Passion, a story of the Crucifixion filmed entirely in Aramaic and Latin with no English subtitles. It seems that conservative Christians are raving over it - and Gibson is courting their support.
Why? According to David Neiwert and Gibson's own interviews, it's because Gibson and his family are extreme fringe Catholics who reject Vatican II, the equality of women, the holocaust, and believe that Bill Clinton and George H.W. Bush are cut from the same "we're front men for secret one-world government" cloth.
Pretty scary stuff - but not surprising that the GOP pundit corps is embracing the thing full scale, nor that a family of holocaust deniers is refusing to let groups like the Anti-Defamation League see the movie while Peggy Noonan, Cal Thomas, and Sen. Rick Santorum's caucus staff director get a private screening.
