The deficit President

A good explanation from Slate about how all the justifications earlier this year for a big tax cut were blatant lies, particularly the assertions that the tax cut was a "conservative" one that accounted for all possible contingencies and unforeseen circumstances.

It dosen't surprise me anymore that conservatives continue to trumpet a tax cut as the answer to every problem. Government has surpluses? We have to give it back as a tax cut. Government has a deficit? A tax cut will stimulate the economy and bring in more tax revenue. Budget is balanced? A tax cut keeps the government from overreaching with new programs.

What does surprise me is how many people continue to believe one policy is the right solution to every problem. It makes you wonder the real motivation in some ultra-righties wanting kids out of public schools where they're supposed to learn enough critical thinking to see through this...
